Frances McGonigle is a native of Athlone. In 2005 she graduated from Crawford College of Art, Cork – Fine Art, Painting (Hons), and in the same year she received the inaugural Derek Hill Award for landscape painting. She is a recipient of Westmeath County Council's Graduate & Emerging Artists Commissioning Award 2006, and several bursaries from Roscommon County Council Arts Office. Her work is in public and private collections at home and abroad. Her work has been described by Mike Fitzpatrick, as hovering “between description and abstraction and [having] a bravery of markmaking and fluidity of approach…[her] works represent a strong vision and it was hugely enjoyable to lose oneself in their slightly curious modernist journeys.” (CORKCAUCUS Edition 2 – EXIT Cork, July 7th 2005).
