Talk Less

These works attempt to evoke the energy of constraint and release involved in the dissolution, disappearance and altered re-appearance over time of structures situated in both rural and urban settings. The idea of a generative force in life which can humble the man-built monumental and transform modest settings into shrine-like features in the landscape is symbolized in the work by shapes of foundations and pillars, for reasons best summarized by a quotation from Daisaku Ikeda:

"To borrow a metaphor.... the true aspect can be likened to a vast and unbound space, while cause and effect can be likened to pillars and beams. With the pillars and beams, the space takes on the shape of a room. At the same time, the pillars and beams could not be called such if they did not shape the space into a room."

Review of Talk Less:

The work hovers “between description and abstraction and [has] a bravery of markmaking and fluidity of approach…[her] works represent a strong vision and it was hugely enjoyable to lose oneself in their slightly curious modernist journeys.” (Mike Fitzpatrick, CORKCAUCUS Edition 2 – EXIT Cork, July 7th 2005).
